EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT (EC)
In view of the ongoing developments and guidelines issued by local authorities related to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), the Consulate General of Malaysia, Los Angeles has decided that all application must be submitted by mail (no walk-in) effective September 22, 2020 until further notice.
For urgent matters, please e-mail: mwlosangeles@kln.gov.my to set up an appointment. Priority will be given to emergency cases only.

This document is issued to Malaysians holding an expired, lost passport or passport validity less than 6 months to return to Malaysia one way via all countries except listed below.

NOTE: Malaysians who fail to register with the Consulate on a yearly basis would face the risk of having their nationality revoked under Article 25(2) of the Federal Constitution.

- Right Thumbprint & Signature Notarization (disregard if submit in person)
- Registration of Malaysian Citizens Abroad
- Mailing address information form (disregard if pick up in person)

- Current Malaysian International Passport & Photocopy(particulars/first page)
- Original Malaysian Identity card (MyKad) and photocopy (front & back)
- Photocopy of Permanent Resident Card/U.S Visa/I-94
- Photocopy of Confirmed flight Itinerary (Must show where you will be departing from, where you will be transiting, and your final destination MUST be Malaysia)
- Three (3) recent U.S passport sized photograph (2X2 inches) – (See photograph requirements below)
- Processing fee to apply for Emergency Travel Document:
U.S $18.00 Money Order/Cashier's Check made payable to "Consulate General of Malaysia" for all applicants.
NOTE: NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED
- For the return postage – provide one (1) prepaid Priority Mail Express Flat Rate Envelope (USD30.45) available from your local U.S. Postal Service.
For children 12 years old and below, please provide these additional documents:
1. Copy of birth certificate
2. Copy of Borang W (for child born abroad)
3. Photocopy of the father’s/guardian’s Malaysia Identification card (MyKad)
4. Photocopy of the father’s/guardian’s Permanent Resident Card/U.S Visa
5. Father/guardian MUST SIGN item no.13 (on Bapa/Penjaga yang sah) as consent to issue passport to the child.
6. Children under three (3) years old is exempted from providing a thumbprint.
Failure to comply with the above requirement will delay the process. Consulate General will not hold responsible for any delay to your travel arrangement.

- The Consulate is not responsible for the documents lost in mail.
- Processing time for Emergency Travel Document will take approximately 3 – 5 business days.
- The Consulate General is not responsible for any delay due to unforeseen circumstances.
- Processing fee is subject to change according to exchange rate given by Malaysian Accountant General's Department.
MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH SPECIFICATION
3 recent identical U.S passport sized photographs (2x2 inches)
Clear white background with no shadows
No glasses, No dangling earrings
Dark colored clothing covering shoulders and chest
Ears & eyebrows MUST be visible
Hair MUST NOT cover forehead
Taken in full-faces view directly facing the camera with a neutral facial expression
Both eyes open and mouth closed (No teeth showing)
Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures that hair or hairline unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face
Make sure to have enough room on top of the head (do not cut the photo to close to the head/hair
Make sure to have good quality photos (not blurry)
