INTERVENTION BY
MR. AHMAD RADZI MOHD ZIM
LONG-TERM DELEGATE FOR THE 77TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATION GENERAL ASSEMBLY
PERMANENT MISSION OF MALAYSIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS
DURING THE INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE WITH
MS. NAVI PILLAY
CHAIR OF THE INDEPENDENT INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY ON
THE OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORY, INCLUDING EAST JERUSALEM, AND IN ISRAEL
THIRD COMMITTEE OF THE 77TH UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY
UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS, NEW YORK, 27 OCTOBER 2022
Mr. Chair,
Malaysia wishes to thank Ms. Navi Pillay for her report and briefing to this Committee.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a stark reminder of the international community’s sheer failure in conflict resolution. The unabated acts of aggression by the apartheid Israeli regime is eroding the two-State solution we have consistently advocated for. We cannot continue to sit idly by and let the objective of an independent Palestinian State slip away from our hands.
As such, we strongly support the recommendations contained in the Commission’s report in document A/77/328. Israel must immediately cease its atrocious acts and be held accountable for the violations it has committed, if we are to restore trust in the international human rights system. For as long as Israel is allowed to enjoy impunity for its actions, the call for the upholding of human rights will be void of credibility. The Security Council must discharge its duty to end the foreign occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory by Israel. The walls must come down.
Malaysia remains committed to the realisation of a sovereign Palestinian State based on the pre-1967 borders.
I thank you.
