CLUSTER: THE IGN PROCESS AND REGIONAL REPRESENTATION
26 JANUARY 2023
Mr. President,
Malaysia congratulates His Excellency Tareq Albanai of the State of Kuwait and His Excellency Michal Mlynar of the Slovak Republic on your appointment as Co- Chairs of the current Intergovernmental Negotiation on the Security Council Reform, and trust that under your able leadership, we can achieve what this chamber has been striving for, in the past decade, and more.
Malaysia reaffirms our commitment to the reform of the Security Council and its processes, and equally commends the commitment displayed by fellow Member States in the intergovernmental negotiations held thus far.
But beyond that we are more into the realm of pontification and digression. In this regard, Malaysia firmly believes that a text-based negotiation could better facilitate a transparent, inclusive and systematic discussion. At the same time, Malaysia remains flexible in exploring possible format or formulation of a reformed Security Council that can garner the widest possible acceptance to Member States.
Thank you.
