PERMANENT MISSION OF MALAYSIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS
AT THE BRIEFING BY H.E. ZANE DANGOR, THE GROUP OF 20 SHERPA OF SOUTH AFRICA
TRUSTEESHIP COUNCIL CHAMBER, 24 MARCH 2025
Malaysia thanks His Excellency Zane Dangor, for the comprehensive briefing. Malaysia commends South Africa in leading the Group of 20 towards a more sustainable and equitable progress, and Malaysia fully supports this important vision. Malaysia resonates with South Africa’s priorities in advancing these principles and would like to take this opportunity to highlight the core areas in our national capacity:
First, the call for more resilient and proactive approach to disaster risk reduction aligns with Malaysia’s own priorities in enhancing our disaster resilience. We are working diligently to improving our disaster management frameworks, enhancing early warning systems, and ensuring that our infrastructure and communities are more resilient to the impacts of climate change. However, this requires not just national effort but global solidarity. The availability of financial resources, particularly through multilateral institutions and the private sector, are key components to climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable development.
Secondly, in the context of energy security, Malaysia understands that a resilient and diversified energy infrastructure is paramount. We are committed to accelerating our efforts in advancing renewable energy technologies, improving energy efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions. However, these efforts must be underpinned by sufficient financial resources, technical expertise, and a global commitment to supporting developing countries.
Finally, as Chair of ASEAN, Malaysia emphasizes the importance of close cooperation not just within regions, but in partnership with multinational organizations with whom we share common aspirations. Under our Chairmanship theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, Malaysia stands ready to engage with our partners in promoting green economies, renewable energy, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
I thank you.
