UN@80: Catalysing Change for Sustainable Development

Chair,

Excellencies,

Distinguished Delegates,

  1. Malaysia remains steadfast in its commitment for SDG and deliver the promises made here ten years ago.

  1. As highlighted in the Voluntary National Review 2025, Malaysia is on track to achieve 43 percent of the SDG targets. Preliminary analysis based on the latest data indicates this figure may increase to 49 percent, exceeding the current global average.

  1. Despite progress, Malaysia must accelerate efforts to meet the remaining SDG targets. We are committed to accelerating implementation through bold and transformative actions.

  1. First, Malaysia has prioritised data-driven focus areas that require multilateral collaboration. Issues like child malnutrition, uneven development progress, and future talent gaps demand close coordination not only among government agencies but also with non-governmental bodies.

  1. Second, Malaysia recognises that 17 percent of our SDG targets face issues related to inadequate data. In response, coordination among stakeholders and efforts will be enhanced to fill the gap. Focus on increasing disaggregated data will be made, which is currently at 33 percent.

  1. Third, Malaysia has aligned the SDG with the values of the current government, as embodied in the MADANI policy framework. This framework aims to ‘raise the ceiling’ by strengthening the economy, while also ‘raising the floor’ by improving quality of life and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

  1. Fourth, Malaysia is committed to mobilising both public and private resources. Innovative financing tools, including green bonds, Islamic finance, and blended finance models, are being leveraged to align with SDG priorities. In ensuring fiscal sustainability, progressive tax reforms have been introduced, targeted subsidies implemented, public financial management strengthened, and transparency of development spending enhanced.

  1. Fifth, Malaysia will work with global and regional partners to carry out joint projects, share policy ideas, and achieve transformative results. As ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia is leading regional efforts to boost economic integration, encourage green investments, and strengthen cooperation for sustainable development.

  1. In conclusion, Malaysia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the SDG agenda and calls for stronger global collaboration. Only through shared responsibility, mutual respect, and collective action can we build a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for all.

Thank you.
