Tan Sri KSN met with HE Ms Susanna Malcorra Chef de Cabinet of the UNSG
YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Ali Hamsa, Chief Secretary of the Government of Malaysia met with H.E. Susana Malcorra, Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary General of the United Nations, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 2 December 2013. The meeting was held as part of Tan Sri Dr. Ali Hamsa’s working visit to New York.
2. During the meeting Tan Sri Dr. Ali Hamsa highlighted that there are currently 65 Malaysians are employed at the United Nations. While this is an adequate number, it is felt that more Malaysians could be employed by the United Nations. The Government of Malaysia is currently encouraging more Malaysians to work abroad including at the United Nations and it is hoped that Ms. Malcorra could assist in this regard.
3. Ms. Malcorra acknowledged that while the number of Malaysians at the United Nations is adequate, based on the overall number of professional staff at the United Nations at around 14,000 and total staff at around 44,000, it could be further increased. She welcomes the encouragement of more Malaysians working at the organization.
4. Other issues were also discussed during the short meeting namely initiatives to increase the number of Malaysian to be employed by the UN, Malaysia’s contribution in the South-South and Triangular Cooperation under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), Malaysia’s role in international humanitarian programme i.e. non-profit organization as MERCY Malaysia and ther UN Specialised agencies as World Food Programme and UNHCR, Malaysia’s bid for the non-permanent seat at the Security Council 2015-2016 and Malaysia’s hosting of the 20th CAPAM Biennial Conference and Ministerial Forum in Putrajaya from 20 to 22 October 2014.
5. Ms. Malcorra was accompanied by Mr. Patrick Carey, Director in the Office of the Chef de Cabinet. On Malaysia’s side, YBhg. Datuk Hussein Haniff, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, Mr. Jamal Sharifuddin Johan, Minister Counselor at the Permanent Mission, Mr. Herman Abdul Hamid, Special Function Officer to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Ezuwan Hassan, Special Function Officer to the Chief Secretary, and Mr. Faidz Sanusi, Head of Communication and Corporate of the Prime Minister’s Office and YM Tengku Mohd Dzaraif, Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN were also present.
