INTERVENTION BY MALAYSIA
AT THE MANAGEMENT SEGEMENT MEETING OF THE ECOSOC
30 JULY 2025, ECOSOC CHAMBER, UNHQ
Thank you, Mr. Vice President
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen.
Malaysia welcomes the draft report of the Secretary-General on the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Malaysia is deeply alarmed by the report’s findings, which reveal catastrophic levels of destruction. As highlighted, the cost of damage and economic losses exceeds 49 billion dollars, with recovery cost estimated at more than 53.2 billion dollars.
We remain gravely concerned over Israel’s policies which are a systemic denial of access to and control of natural resources resulting in loss of livelihood and increased food insecurity to an already starving population. The deliberate targeting of medical, industrial and energy infrastructure has also resulted in severe human loss and environmental contamination.
This prolonged violence against the Palestinians will cause not only severe trauma but also lasting repercussions for generations to come.
We reiterate our calls for the halting of violence, ending Israel’s illegal occupation and unhindered humanitarian access to all Palestinians in need. Malaysia is committed to upholding international law and support proper accountability measures against Israel for all its violations.
Malaysia reiterates its support for the Palestinians’ right to self-determination, through the realisation of a sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its Capital.
Thank you.
