STATEMENT BY

MS. NORDIANA ZIN ZAWAWI, COUNSELLOR

PERMANENT MISSION OF MALAYSIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS

AT THE INFORMAL CONSULTATIONS ON THE 2025 ECOSOC HLS AND HLPF MINISTERIAL DECLARATION

ECOSOC COUNCIL CHAMBER, 6 MARCH 2025

Distinguished Co-Facilitators,

Malaysia thank the Czech Republic and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as co-facilitators of this important process. Malaysia aligns itself with the statement delivered by Iraq on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.

The 2025 High- Level Political Forum is an important opportunity for us to reflect on the emerging and persistent challenges hindering our progress toward achieving the SDGs. To this end, Malaysia calls for an actionable Ministerial Declaration.

Distinguished Co- Facilitators,

The focus on SDGs 3, 5, 8, 14, and 17 remains paramount towards creating an inclusive, and sustainable future for all, and to leaving no one behind. In its national capacity, Malaysia wishes to emphasize the following:

First, As we look to the next five years, priority actions must include strengthening public services, enhancing governance, and promoting green growth. These actions will create new job opportunities, drive sustainable development, and ensure climate resilience.

Secondly, regional cooperation is not only vital, but it is key to achieving the SDGs. As Chair of ASEAN, Malaysia continues to prioritize strengthening regional cooperation in areas such as sustainable energy transition, biodiversity conservation, and the development of financial and environmental taxonomy, with the aim of fostering shared progress and mutual benefit.

Finally, Malaysia believes that the VNR represents an important opportunity for us to share the lessons we have learned, the best practices we have implemented, and the areas where we need to enhance our efforts. In this regard, Malaysia remains fully committed to the preparation of its third VNR presentation this year, reaffirming our commitment to transparent reporting and continued progress towards the 2030 Agenda.

Distinguished Co-Facilitators,

Rest assured of Malaysia’s support for this process.

Thank you.
