MALAYSIA’S NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION 2024
29 AUGUST 2024
SPEECH BY TYT DATO’ DR. AHMAD FAISAL MUHAMAD
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
- Selamat Datang! Welcome! Thank you everyone, for being here and joining us in our celebration to commemorate the 67th National Day of Malaysia. Terima kasih!
- Your presence is a testament to the strong bonds of friendship, partnership and cooperation that unite us, in our pursuit of peace, shared prosperity and progress.
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
- When our nation gained its independence on 31st August 1957, Malaya, as it was known then, was a small, under-developed country.
- Sixty-seven years later, Malaysia now is a robust democracy, internationally recognized for its political stability, inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony, as well as an open and thriving economy, and is on the verge of becoming a developed nation.
- Malaysia is a proof that even a nation with the most humble of beginnings can become a stable, vibrant and dynamic society. We have embraced innovation, creativity, and international collaboration, harnessing these forces to drive growth and progress. Importantly, we recognize that our achievements are not solely our own, but are supported by the global community’s collective pursuit of peace, justice and co-operation.
- Malaysia thus, is a believer of the multilateral system, particularly that of the United Nations. It is the framework, which provides us the agency, to participate as an equal, along with other sovereign and independent member states, to collectively shape global norms, promote international co-operation and protect world peace.
- When we filed for the UN membership, immediately after independence, we were cognizant that membership would bring with it not only rights, but also obligations.
- As a proud member of the United Nations, Malaysia has been honored to contribute to its noble endeavors. We have worked alongside nations and international organizations to address common challenges and seize new opportunities. We have advocated for the marginalized and oppressed, championed sustainable development, and partnered in the pursuit of progress and shared global prosperity.
- Malaysia will continue its active and constructive engagements at the United Nations, guided by our strong belief in sustainability, co-operation, equality, inclusivity and justice. These values are also the major principles of the ‘Malaysia Madani’ concept that guides the policies of the current Malaysian Government.
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
- Although we are in the most challenging and uncertain of times, we must continue to look into the future with hope and optimism. In this spirit, we look forward to the adoption of the Pact for the Future at the upcoming Summit of the Future. Despite the challenges that lie ahead, we are confident in our ability to overcome them together.
- As we celebrate the 67th anniversary of our precious independence, Malaysia renews its commitment towards the United Nations-led multilateralism. We call on all our partners, the peace-loving nations of the world, to join us in our common purpose, and shape our shared future with courage, wisdom, mutual respect and determination. May our collective efforts continue to inspire a brighter future for all nations and peoples of the world.
Selamat Menyambut Hari Kebangsaan ke – 67!
Happy 67th National Day, Malaysia!
Terima kasih /
Thank you.
