Information for Malaysians Travelling Abroad
Malaysian nationals planning to travel overseas are advised to enquire about specific visa requirements from the High Commission, Embassy or Consulate of their country of destination. Visa requirements may vary depending on the purpose and the length of stay. Regulations are also liable to change, sometimes at short notice. General information on visa requirements for travelling Malaysians (by country) is available here.
For specific entry requirements to the US, please refer to the Consular Section of the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur at https://my.usembassy.gov/visas/nonimmigrant-visas/
Apart from visa, it is also important to ensure that:
- Place and country of destination is safe to visit;
- Validity date of passport is more than six months from date of travel; and
- Passport/self-identification document as well as the name, address and telephone number of next-of-kin are available and kept safely while travelling.
On arrival at the destination, Malaysians who are planning to stay for more than three (3) months in the foreign country are required to register at the nearest Malaysian embassy, high commission or consulate. Address, telephone number and e-mail of Malaysian diplomatic missions overseas are available on Wisma Putra's website under Our Embassies Abroad.
Malaysians in Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin should register with the Consulate General of Malaysia in New York. The Consulate General can be reached by email at email@example.com or by phone at +1 (212) 490 2723.
Some countries may require travellers to produce a World Health Organisation-approved international certificate of vaccination, commonly for yellow fever, upon arrival. Get information regarding any disease outbreaks in the intended travel destination as well as the relevant inoculate guidelines from the Ministry of Health’s website at www.moh.gov.my.
