20 APRIL 2020 - ADVISORY: RAMADHAN 1441 AH (2020)

As we welcome the advent of the holy month of Ramadhan for this year, the Embassy is pleased to refer to the announcement by the Fiqh Council of North America that the first day of Ramadhan 1441 will fall on Friday, 24 April 2020.

In view of the continuing stay-at-home order for Washington D.C. until 15 May 2020, as well as federal and local rules/guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Embassy will not be organizing iftar gathering, terawikh prayers, and Bazaar Ramadhan throughout the month of Ramadhan. The Embassy’s main priority remains to ensure the safety and well-being of all Embassy staff, Malaysian citizens in the United States, as well as their family members. Thus, everyone is advised to continue to adhere to federal and local rules/guidelines and refrain from public or mixed household gatherings – whether social or religious in nature – in the month of Ramadhan.

As the holy month of Ramadhan is a time for contemplation and worship, we should take the opportunity of the stay-at-home orders to self-reflect, fast and pray together with our loved ones at home, and strengthen our faith to be a better Muslim and person, without the usual daily distractions.

During this challenging time of COVID-19, we should also honor the spirit of Ramadhan by reaching out to those in need in our community, to be compassionate, generous, and charitable, as called for by the religion.

To all Malaysian Muslims in the United States, “Selamat mengerjakan ibadah berpuasa”.

Have a blessed Ramadhan, take care and be safe!
