CLASSICAL MUSIC RECITAL

The ChargĂ© d’Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington, D.C., Mr. Ilango Karuppannan hosted the Classical Music Recital on 7 May 2009.

In his remarks, CDA a.i said that this is a another presentation of Malaysia’s artistic side – classical western music by two very accomplished young Malaysians musicians, Eugene Pook, clarinetist and Melody Quah, pianist.

The recital began with La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin for both instruments (3 mins.), Victorian Kitchen (5 mins), homegrown musician by Dr. Tazul Tajuddin, Lagu III (3 mins), Faschingsschwank  aus Wien (8 mins), Ballad No. 10 in G minor Op. 23 (Viennese Carnival-8 mins). The recital ended with Concerto (17 mins). The 45-minute recital made a tremendous impression on the 80 guests who attended the event.

A reception was later held, where a fusion of eastern and western culture met at the buffet table with delicious lamb briyani, chicken curry and mee goreng along with other authentic Malaysian cuisine, and deserts.

The event was a success in portraying Malaysia’s artistic side to Washingtonians and friends of Malaysia.
