EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA CO-HOSTS IFAR WITH ISLAMIC RELIEF USA AND CENTER FOR INTER-FAITH ACTION

On Monday, 13 August 2012, the Embassy of Malaysia hosted together with Islamic Relief U.S.A. and the Center for Inter-faith Action (CIFA) an interfaith IFTAR. 

 

As many as 100 representatives from various interfaith organizations, NGOs and  Muslim organizations based in Washington D.C. joined the event last evening. 

 

Members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as representatives from the U.S. Department of State and U.S.A.I.D. were also present during the event.

 

In his opening remarks, His Excellency Datuk Othman Hashim, Ambassador of Malaysia to the U.S., welcomed all invitees to the event and commended the work of Islamic Relief USA and CIFA in promoting interfaith cooperation and activities. 

 

He continued by saying that for Malaysia as a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, religious tolerance, understanding and an appreciation of people's differences were all hallmarks of Malaysian society. 

 

He added that the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) initiated by YAB Prime Minister was in line with efforts to tackle extremist ideologies and that the Government was ready to work with organizations based in the U.S. which shared in the ideals of the GMM to move the initiative forward.
