EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA HOSTS PASSPORT D.C. EVENT
On 5 May 2013, the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. participated in Passport DC's Around the World Embassy Tour. As many as 4,500 members of the public visited the Embassy Open Day from 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs. Among the activities prepared for the Passport D.C. by the Embassy was a photo montage of Malaysia-U.S. bilateral relations, cultural performances which include dance ensembles as well as a traditional Malay wedding, interactive sessions of Malaysian traditional games, and exhibition booths by MINDEF, Agriculture Office, MARA, education offices, Malaysia Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), American Palm Oil Council (APOC), trade offices and Tourism Malaysia. Food stalls also provided members of the public samplings of Malaysian cuisine, including demonstrations of teh tarik and roti canai preparation.
Overall, the event was a success and provided an opportunity for members of the U.S. public, particularly from the Washington D.C. area a greater understanding of Malaysia. It is estimated that as many as 28,000 individuals visited the various Embassies participating in Passport D.C. Media coverage of the Passport D.C. event overall was also provided by Fox 5 D.C., Going Out Guide, In the Capital, NBC 4, WPFW, WTOP, Washington Diplomat, Washington Post and Where Magazine.
