On Thursday, 12 July 2012, the Embassy of Malaysia hosted 145 members from 35 countries, including the U.S., of Rotaract International. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30.
In his welcoming remarks, His Excellency Datuk Othman Hashim, Malaysian Ambassador to the U.S., highlighted that with more than 8,400 Rotaracts clubs in 170 countries and with more than 170,000 members, Rotaract has played an important role in bringing young people from different countries closer together, including those from the U.S. and Malaysia.
The speeches were followed by fashion and cultural shows and singing performances. Representatives from Chile, Egypt, Ghana, Canada, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic all contributed to the cultural segment of the proceedings.
The Embassy provided a performance of the Joget Lambak in traditional costume as well as prepared Malaysian cuisine for the guests to sample.
