On 30 August 2011, the Embassy of Malaysia, Washington D.C., celebrated Hari Raya Aidil-Fitri, to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The day began with prayers held at the Embassy, followed by a telepresence conference between the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia with the Embassy’s Home-Based Staff and 40 Malaysian students studying in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and New York. A special flag raising ceremony was also held to mark Merdeka Day. Attendees to the festivities, which included Embassy staff, the Malaysian community and students, were also treated to a sumptuous spread of Malaysian Hari Raya delicacies prepared by BAKIS and PERWAKILAN Washington D.C.
