July 24, 2018 Washington DC : A joint ASEAN reception to celebrate ASEAN Day was hosted by the Embassy of Singapore as the current chair of ASEAN. The event was attended by ASEAN Ambassadors together with representatives of the business community, think-tanks, academia, media and civil society organizations related to ASEAN. Guests of honor at the celebration were W. Patrick Murphy, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southeast Asia at the Department of State and Congressman Joaquin Castro who sits on the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. Malaysia was represented by Ms. Murni Abdul Hamid, Charge d’Affaires. Guests were served popular ASEAN delicacies like nasi lemak (Malaysia), tahu sumedang (Indonesia) and cassava cake (Philippines) among many others.
