The Embassy of Malaysia hosted the Malaysia-American Society (MAS) Annual General Meeting on 30 January 2009. The AGM was chaired by Mr. Thomas Reckford, President of MAS. The President reported on the activities of 2008 followed by a financial report by the Treasurer. The meeting continued with the announcement of its new elected Board Members.

The Chairman of the Board then invited CDA a.i. to deliver his key-note address. In his speech, Mr. Ilango Karuppannan hoped that MAS will play an active role as an informal bridge between Malaysia and the US with the overall aim of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and its peoples. He congratulated MAS for their efforts over the years this included the Lat’s Get-together and most recently the Arts Exhibition which was co-organized with the Embassy of Malaysia.

About 80 members of the MAS attended the event, namely from the US State Department, Malaysians working in the United States and Americans who had visited and worked in Malaysia. A reception was later held at the Grand Hall of the chancery.
