MALAYSIA DAY RECEPTION IN WASHINGTON D.C.

11 October 2018, Washington D.C.: The Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. held a reception to commemorate the 61st anniversary of Malaysia’s independence and the 55th anniversary of the formation of the Federation of Malaysia. More than 200 people attended the reception, hosted by Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Murni Abdul Hamid. Ms. Patricia Mahoney, the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the United States Department of State attended the reception as the Guest of Honour. In a special video message by H.E. Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, that was broadcasted to the audience, he underlined the new Malaysian government’s priorities and reaffirmed the importance of having strong partnership with the U.S. towards achieving these goals. During the reception, guests were served authentic Malaysian delicacies and treated to a traditional Malay Joget performed by the Gemala Sitra dance group made up of children of the Embassy Staff. The highlight of the event was the Pulut Kuning Twin Towers which was on display as a centrepiece at the main lobby of the Embassy.
