SATURDAY, 2 MAY 2009

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Mr. Ilango Karuppannan hosted the “Malaysia Open House” jointly organized with the Cultural Tourism DC (CTDC), a non-profit organization focusing on arts, culture and heritage for Washingtonians. The event was held on Saturday, 2 May 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Embassy of Malaysia showcased a hawker-style marketplace at the compounds of the embassy. The Embassy also presented two sessions of traditional cultural performances at the Tun Hussein Hall with performers from the local dance group, the Sutera Malaysia.

The event was a tremendous success. It is one of Mission’s outreach programme for the local community to learn and explore about Malaysia. The Embassy also had made available tourism brochures and other pamphlets on Malaysia. Almost 1,800 brochures of various types were snapped up the visitors. A total of 3,876 visitors came to the Embassy. Most of them were excited to taste Malaysian delicacies. They enjoyed the interactive dance session or Joget Lambak with the dancers.
