VISIT OF THE HON. MINISTER OF DEFENCE TO WASHINGTON, D.C. (update)

 

Thursday, 27 May 2010 – The Hon. Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Minister of Defence, is visiting Washington, D.C. from 22 to 29 May 2010.  During the visit, the Hon. Minister held discussions with his U.S. counterpart the Hon. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and held meetings with several senior U.S. officials.  The recent visit of the Hon. Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, to the U.S. had opened a new window of opportunity for defense cooperation between the two countries to reach new heights.  The Hon. Defence Minister highlighted that greater cooperation will be achieved in areas such as exchanges of visits, training, exercises and technology transfer.  At the request of the Government of Afghanistan, Malaysia will also be deploying a medical team there, with particular focus given to providing medical support to Afghan women.

 

Tomorrow, the Hon. Minister of Defence will be in Lafayette, Indiana to officiate the launching of the Malaysian Midwest Games 2010 organized by the Purdue University Malaysian Students Association (PUMSA) at Purdue University.
