YB Datuk Anifah Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, visited Washington for a working visit on 14-15 May 2009 on the invitation of Her Excellency Hillary Clinton, the US State Secretary. This is his first visit to the United States as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

 

During the visit YB FM called on Secretary Hillary Clinton. Both leaders had an extensive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest and concern, and explored avenues for enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

 

 

YB FM also met with Senator Richard Lugar, ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. They had a useful discussion.

 

 

As part of his visit to Washington, YB FM visited the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington. He met with all staff of the Embassy. Mr. Ilango Karuppannan, CDA briefed YB FM on the role and activities undertaken by the Embassy. Yhg. Datin Siti Rubiah Abdul Samad met separately with the members of PERWAKILAN Washington.

 

On 14 May 2009, the ChargĂ© d’Affaires, Mr. Ilango Karuppannan also hosted dinner for YB FM and delegation. Among the invitees were senior officials from the National Security Council and State Department, think tanks, academia, as well as members of the Malaysian-America Society.
