Advisory by the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington DC relating to the Security Situation in Washington DC and other State Capitals Ahead of the 59th Presidential Inauguration
On 11 January 2021, the Mayor and Governors of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia issued a joint statement urging the public not to come into Washington DC for the 59th Presidential Inauguration and instead participate virtually.
This was followed by a situational update issued by the office of the Mayor of Washington DC on 13 January 2021, advising the public to avoid the Central Business District in Downtown Washington DC.
In this regard, the Embassy of Malaysia urges Malaysian citizens to abide by the ruling and guidelines issued by the authorities. The Embassy also urges Malaysians to remain vigilant and exercise increased caution to ensure their safety and well-being.
Concerning any possible protests in state capitals as widely reported by the media, Malaysian citizens are advised to avoid areas of protest, to stay at home as much as possible and to abide by instructions and guidelines imposed by the relevant authorities including any curfews announced (if any).
