On 14 July 2026, Deputy Chief of Mission Syed Farizal Aminy Syed Mohamad participated as a panelist in a briefing for U.S. Congressional Staffers titled “Digital Economy: Opportunities for U.S.-ASEAN Cooperation,” organized by the U.S.-Asia Institute on Capitol Hill. He highlighted Malaysia’s pioneering role in digital governance, showcasing how the regulatory foundations established during Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship paved the way for the region-wide Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).
The DCM underscored the critical need for a secure, future-ready digital workforce to sustain this regional momentum. He proposed a strategic alliance between the U.S. and ASEAN to co-invest in high-tech talent development, specifically targeting small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) which form the backbone of the region’s economy. By aligning U.S. technological innovation with ASEAN’s dynamic, digitally native youth, both sides can actively secure and fortify global technology supply chains for the next decade.
