Malaysia-Venezuela diplomatic relations were established on 18 December 1986. On 1 October 1990, Malaysia established its Embassy in Caracas, at the level of Chargé d'Affaires. The Malaysian Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil was then concurrently accredited to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.


Malaysia’s first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary based in Caracas was His Excellency Ambassador Datuk John Tanawi Nuek who presented his credentials on 30 June 2000.  At the same time, His Excellency was concurrently accredited to eight other neighboring countries namely Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. His Excellency completed his tour of duty in Caracas on 28 August 2004 and was succeed by His Excellency Ambassador Ramli bin Naam from 11 July 2005 to 4 March 2007. This was followed by His Excellency Ambassador Ramlan bin Kimin as the third Ambassador to Venezuela from 6 March 2007 to 10 June 2011. His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mahinder Singh who was the forth Ambassador from 31 July 2011 ended his tour of duty on 7 July 2016 and succeed by His Excellency Ambasssador Muzafar Shah bin Mustafa, the fifth Ambassador arrived in Caracas on 15 August 2016. His Excellency Ambasssador Muzafar Shah bin Mustafa ended his tour of duty on 20 August 2018.  At present, Mr. Mohd Raizul Nizam bin Zulkiffli is the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy.


The Embassy in Caracas at the early stage was located temporary at Hilton Hotel until mid of February 1991. It was then moved to the “Tower Block Office” building in El Rosal, Caracas until 14 February 1997. The Chancery of the Embassy of Malaysia moved to its current location at Euro Building on 15 February 1997. This Chancery was officiated by The Right Honorable Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamed, the Forth and the current Prime Minister of Malaysia on 19 March 2002.


The Ambassador of Malaysia to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is concurrently accredited to eight countries namely Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
