The Embassy of Malaysia, Hanoi would like to advise you regarding this matter: Generally, it is advisable to always take steps to ensure personal safety, travel documents and property; Survey and find out about the hotel that you will be staying in Hanoi or other provinces. This will help raise awareness on security risks that might be. Seek advice from your proper travel agents/ tour guides (if you have one) or even the hotel itself. They have vested interest in order to ensure your safety and comfort. Be sure to have an appropriate insurance coverage for your travelling; Ensure that the passport and travel documents are stored safely. In the event of loss of passport, The Embassy of Malaysia may issue an Emergency Certificate for you to travel back to Malaysia. However, the Vietnamese Immigration requires Emergency Certificate holders to obtain an Exit Visas before departure from Vietnam. The process of obtaining the Exit Visa will be time-consuming and will affect the schedules back home.

For the Malaysian who lost passport in Vietnam
Documents to be submitted:
The Police Report issued by the nearest Local Police Station
Passport Application Form (IM.42-Pin.1/97) and Malaysian Police Report Form that can be obtained at the Embassy of Malaysia in Hanoi
Copy of the lost Malaysian International Passport
Malaysian Identity Card (original and 1 copy)
2 Passport size photographs with white background, size 4 x 6 cm, wearing dark color shirts, no glasses wearing.
Air-ticket booking (direct flight from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur, no transit is allowed)
Fee: RM 50.00 / VND 350,000
Duration: 3 working days

Registration Of Malaysians Abroad
Malaysians abroad are advised to register their whereabouts with the nearest Malaysian Representative Office abroad.
This is intended to help the Malaysian Representative Office provide appropriate assistance in the event of any disaster/emergency.
