In view of the ongoing developments and guidelines issued by local authorities related to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), the Consulate General of Malaysia, Los Angeles has decided that all application must be submitted by mail (no walk-in) effective September 22, 2020 until further notice.

The Malaysian International Passport is a valid travel document issued by the Malaysian Government for the purpose of traveling abroad.  Malaysians residing overseas may apply for a new International Passport at any Malaysian Mission on the conditions:-

  • Holds a valid Malaysian International Passport
  • Return to Malaysia at least once every five years
  • Submit application 6 months prior to expiration date

FAQ - Where to Apply?

 

Consulate General of Malaysia, Los Angeles:

Both walk-in and mail in application are permitted. Once your application has been reviewed, it will be forwarded to the Immigration Office in New York for process. Processing time will take approximately 6-8 weeks.

 

OR

 

Consulate General of Malaysia, New York:

Malaysia Immigration Office is located in New York and it is the only producing office of Malaysia International Passport in the United States of America. Applicants must be present to submit applications. Mail-in application is not permitted.

 

For Expedite Service:

Available only at Malaysia Immigration Office, New York. Applicants must be present to submit application in person at the Immigration counter. Kindly contact the Malaysia Immigration Office at (212) 490-2722 ext.108 for appointment request. Mail-in application is not permitted

CHECKLIST FOR NEW PASSPORT/RENEWAL APPLICATION

(Above 12 years old and below 60 years old)

Right Thumbprint & Signature Notarization (disregard if submit in person)

Registration of Malaysian Citizens Abroad

Mailing address information form (disregard if pick up in person)

Current Malaysia International Passport and photocopy (particulars/first page)

Original Malaysian Identity card (Mykad) and photocopy (front and back)

*Note: Mykad is a chip-based Identity Card, introduced on 1 January 2003

*Old Identification Card (with no chip) will not be accepted. If you do not have a MyKad you will need to get an extraction of your I/C (Cabutan Daftar Kad Pengenalan) from any Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara branch in Malaysia. Any family member can get one for you and the original copy issued by JPN will be needed to process your passport renewal application.

Photocopy of Permanent Resident Card/ U.S visa/ I-94

Three (3) recent U.S passport sized photograph (2x2 inches) clear white background with dark colored shirt. (See photograph requirements below)

Processing fee of U.S$70.00 should be remitted by Money Order/Cashier’s check made payable to Consulate General of Malaysia

Return fee of U.S$15.00 should be remitted by Money Order/Cashier’s check made payable to FedEx

MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH SPECIFICATION

 

 

3 recent identical U.S passport sized photographs (2x2 inches)

 Clear white background with no shadows

 No glasses, No dangling earrings

 Dark colored clothing covering shoulders and chest

 Ears & eyebrows MUST be visible

 Hair MUST NOT cover forehead

 Taken in full-faces view directly facing the camera with a neutral facial expression

 Both eyes open and mouth closed (No teeth showing)

 Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures that hair or hairline unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face

 Make sure to have enough room on top of the head (do not cut the photo to close to the head/hair

 Make sure to have good quality photos (not blurry)
